Melton Villages & the
Wreake Valley

Steeped in rural life Melton Mowbray and the Wreake Valley showcase some of the most appealing places to embrace an enriching outdoor lifestyle.

Why Is This Area So Sought-after?

The thriving market town of Melton Mowbray has a worldwide reputation as ‘Britain’s Rural Capital of Food’. As well as being recognised as a national centre for high quality artisan produce of all kinds and the original home of  the authentic Melton Mowbray Pork Pie and Stilton cheese, there’s much much more to surprise and delight you about this quintessentially English part of the world.

Melton and the many inviting villages of the Wreake Valley are centrally located for easy access to all the key cities in the East Midlands as well as having rail links to Peterborough, Cambridge, Nottingham, Leicester, Birmingham and Stanstead Airport. Both the town itself and the villages nearby enjoy a fascinating past, with historic buildings and places of interest in abundance – not least the weekly market which is the largest town centre market in the country and predates the Domesday Book. The neighbouring villages are as charismatic as they are welcoming with ironstone period homes rubbing shoulders with fine country properties, often with land and stabling attached, to cater to the many equestrians and lovers of countryside pursuits who enjoy living here.

Green spaces abound with a country park at the heart of the town and a lazy river meandering through the centre.

The delights of nearby Rutland Water await fishermen, sailors and lovers of walking and wildlife. Add to this a flourishing and well supported social scene with a family run art deco cinema, a theatre, live music venues, great dining and regular outdoor events and it becomes clear why this corner of our region has quickly become a popular choice for families.

The area offers a superb choice of preschool facilities, primary, day and boarding secondary schools and sixth-form colleges within proximity. Parents can access the educational offerings in nearby Rutland as well as Leicestershire.

In one sentence: An especially alluring region combining the very best of rural life with spectacular food and lively entertainment for those who enjoy films, theatre, comedy and music.

Transport links (journey times are approximate and depend on travel time): From Melton Mowbray to Grantham Railway Station is a 23-minute drive and to Peterborough Railway Station is 45 minutes by road. Both stations have regular services to London St Pancras.

As the leading Estate Agents in this area, we’ve also found that Melton Mowbray is becoming extremely popular with families. This is mainly due to the wide range of schools in the area with most scoring ‘Good’ or higher in reports. Also, with many nurseries and primary schools achieving an ‘Outstanding’ report, there are many great educational institutions for your children.

Free Parent Home Search Service

We also offer a free parent home search service, which allows us to discuss a family’s requirements before we get underway. We then look to target areas that we know will suit those requirements, as we have a great understanding of the back and forth that’s involved with both in-school and extracurricular activities.

Parents seeking private education for their children are increasingly looking to be located close to their school of choice. For parents of day children in particular, it’s even more important to find a quality home within ten to fifteen minutes of the school.
